Born in 1986 in St. Louis, Missouri, Micah Mickles is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans photography, printmaking, drawing, and assemblage-qua-memorials. His work delves into themes of storytelling, memory, and the craft traditions of the African diaspora and the American South, often reconstructing family histories and preserving collective traditions. Mickles’ art embodies a transformative exploration of grief, introspection, and healing, using found materials and a deep connection to craft to evoke resilience and remembrance.

His practice weaves ancient and contemporary elements, bridging the personal and communal. Educated at Washington University (MFA, 2024) and the University of Missouri–St. Louis (BFA, 2022), Mickles has exhibited nationally at STNDRD Exhibitions and the Mildred Lane Kemper Museum. His distinct work has garnered recognition, including the Jacqueline Ferer Stern Scholarship and the 2023 Counterpublic Fellowship.
