Memory Cloth is an exploration of legacy, identity, and the delicate threads that bind us to those who came before. This piece serves as both an offering and a testament to the craft traditions of the African diaspora and the American South, embodying the layered histories that inform my own personal narrative. I incorporate found materials that carry echoes of past lives, transforming them into assemblage-qua-memorials that speak to the resilience and beauty of collective memory.

This work is grounded in a dialogue between grief and healing, where the cloth itself becomes a canvas of introspection, holding remnants of stories, fragments of family history, and pieces of a greater cultural tapestry. By engaging with the tactile process of assembling and reassembling, I’m able to transform the ephemeral into something lasting—a cloth that holds memories beyond the physical, inviting viewers to engage in their own journeys of remembrance and reflection.

Through Memory Cloth, I honor those who have come before while reaching toward a future grounded in remembrance and resilience, where every piece is a bridge between past and present, memory and creation.
