Where The Pirates Found Their Gold
My work is a reflection of my upbringing and the values instilled in me by my family. It involves collecting and redefining found and store-bought materials, highlighting the complexity and interconnectedness of the world. This process of accumulation and redefinition resonates deeply with me, and I draw inspiration from my childhood experiences and the symbols that have impacted me. Through my art, I aim to challenge established meanings and provoke alternative views, particularly regarding well-known symbols such as the American flag.
My exploration of the impact of corporations like Chiquita has been a significant influence on my work. As I delved into the stories behind these corporations, I discovered the transformation of the Great White Fleet and its role in history. This led me to create pieces that challenge the established narratives, raising questions about consumerism, marketing tactics, and the impact on society.
In my artistic practice, I use everyday objects and materials that are familiar to many people, creating art that prompts viewers to question the symbols and structures that shape their world. Through my work, I seek to encourage awareness and critical thinking about the influence of popular culture and consumerist strategies.
